What made you get into the industry?
My journey into the attractions industry began because I’m a bowling nerd. At the age of 17, I started working at an AMF Bowling Center in Arizona, where I developed a strong appreciation for the guest experience and operational side of the business. Shortly thereafter, I joined the U.S. Army and was deployed to Korea. During my deployment, I had the opportunity to help maintain and repair a bowling center on base, ensuring that service members had access to recreational activities and a sense of community while stationed overseas. Upon returning from Korea, I resumed my career with AMF Bowling and held a variety of positions that expanded my knowledge of the industry. These experiences ultimately led me to become the owner of Amazing Jake’s, where I focused on creating an exceptional family entertainment center experience for guests. Our commitment to innovation and excellence was recognized with the IAAPA Brass Ring Award for Top Family Entertainment Center in the World in 2018, followed by the IAAPA Brass Ring Award for Best New Food Item in 2019 for our Unicorn Tacos.
What piece of advice would you give someone new wanting to join the industry?
My advice to someone new to the industry would be to recognize and appreciate the impact this industry has on people's lives. We create experiences, memories, and moments of connection that guests often remember for years to come. It is a rewarding field, but it also requires dedication, resilience, and a strong commitment to serving others. This industry is fast-paced and demanding, and success does not come without hard work. Those who are willing to embrace challenges, remain adaptable, and stay focused on delivering exceptional guest experiences will find tremendous opportunities for both personal and professional growth.
How did you become the leader you are today?
I became the leader I am today by learning from and working alongside many exceptional people who invested their time, knowledge, and trust in my development. Throughout my career, I have embraced every opportunity to learn, grow, and refine my skills, understanding that leadership is a continuous journey rather than a destination. Leadership is built through consistent effort and experience, the thousands of interactions, decisions, and repetitions that shape who we become. By showing up every day with a commitment to excellence and a desire to be the best version of myself, I have continually challenged myself to improve. I believe that effective leaders never stop learning and strive to be better each day than they were the day before.
