- For Attendees
IAAPA Expo Europe 2026 is working toward an independent third-party certification awarded to events that meet specific environmental, social, and governance criteria. The certification aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and builds on established best practices from the event industry.
The certification primarily assesses IAAPA as the organizer, including planning, communication, and initiatives to reduce negative impacts and enhance positive outcomes. However, achieving this certification also depends on active participation from exhibitors.
As an exhibitor, specific sustainability requirements apply. Please see the next section, “Exhibitor Sustainability Requirements,” for details. Fulfilling these criteria is necessary for the Expo to qualify for certification. Another opportunity to contribute is to sign up for the voluntary Sustainability Pledge. Please see the section, “Exhibitor Sustainability Pledge,” for details.
Exhibitors are not audited individually, as overall responsibility remains with IAAPA. Nevertheless, meeting the outlined requirements and ensuring staff are familiar with IAAPA’s sustainability statement and policy are essential contributions to a responsible and sustainable Expo.
In addition to the information provided in this Exhibitor Services Guide, further details about IAAPA’s sustainability work are available at www.iaapa.org/about/sustainability, and specific sustainability initiatives for Expo Europe can be found at https://iaapa.org/expos-and-events/expo-europe.

KEY SUSTAINABILITY FOCUS AREAS OF IAAPA EXPO EUROPE
IAAPA has identified its most relevant sustainability topics through a materiality analysis, assessing where the association has the greatest impact and where stakeholder expectations are highest. These priorities span environmental, social, and governance areas.
Based on this overall framework, IAAPA Expo Europe has defined specific sustainability focus areas for the event — reflecting where the Expo has the strongest opportunity to reduce negative impacts and create positive outcomes.
For the Expo, the following key sustainability focus areas include:
Production and waste
Food and beverage
Mobility
Health and safety
Accessibility and inclusion
Education and knowledge sharing
Communication
These areas guide priorities and actions for the Expo.
MEASUREABLE SUSTAINABILITY TARGETS
IAAPA has established measurable sustainability targets toward 2027. The current targets
relevant to Expos and aligned with the Expo’s key focus areas include:
Reduce CO₂ emissions (GHG Scope 1, 2, and 3 – business travel) by 10% by 2027, compared to the 2025 baseline, while gradually expanding the inclusion of additional Scope 3 categories.
Reduce unsorted waste from Expos by 20% by 2027, compared to the 2025 baseline.
Achieve sustainability certification for IAAPA Expo Europe (2026), Middle East (2027), Orlando (2028), and Asia (2029), following a phased implementation plan.
