Throughout the month of May, we bring together the community of operators, professionals, and leaders in the attractions industry from Latin America and the Caribbean to reflect, learn, and share what unites us: our commitment to safety.
IAAPA Safety Month is an initiative that combines education, connection, and innovation through virtual and in-person events with world-class experts. Designed to offer accessible, practical, and relevant content for all levels, areas, and types of attractions, this 2025 edition will help you strengthen your organizational safety culture and better prepare your team for today's challenges.
See the agenda below for the Virtual Forum on May 13, Masterclass on May 15, Virtual Drill on May 20, and Virtual Panel on May 22. Each virtual event is one hour or less. We are very excited to offer the Virtual Drill for participants to experience a simulated crisis situation where the participant will work through making real-time decisions, be able to review their decisions and discuss best practices in crisis management.
A separate option is available for an in-person two day Safety Bootcamp May 28-29 in Mundo Petapa, Guatemala, and an option for IAAPA Meetup: Guatemala on May 29 from 6:00pm - 9:00pm. To learn about the IAAPA Guatemala Meetup, CLICK HERE.

Participants will experience a simulated crisis situation, make real-time decisions, reflect on their preparedness, and recognize best practices in crisis management in the attractions industry.

Virtual Panel: Accessibility in Operations
*This virtual event is held at Eastern Standard Time.
In this interactive panel, accessibility and safety experts will share key strategies for addressing the needs of guests with mobility limitations, neurodiversity, or other specific conditions, without compromising operational safety. Participants will learn how to develop empathetic communication, implement inclusive protocols, and effectively prioritize safety. This space offers success stories, best practices, and a practical approach to building safe and inclusive experiences for all guests.

The IAAPA Safety Bootcamp is an intensive two-day in-person workshop that combines theoretical sessions, group dynamics, practical cases, and a technical tour in a theme park.
Day 1 – Definitions and Fundamentals: Safety and Accessibility Culture
9 – 9:30 a.m.
Registration and Welcome

Session 1 – From Design to Operation: Concepts and Fundamentals of Risk Management and Safety Culture
Seminar exploring key concepts and the history/evolution of the occupational safety approach and safety culture, risk and hazard identification in operations, decision-making, and its connection to investment returns
11 – 11:30 a.m.

11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Practical Exercise 1: Creating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
Group work to practice the application of SOPs
1 – 2 p.m.

2 – 3:30 p.m.
Session 2 – Beyond Inclusion: Passenger Accessibility and Eligibility
Discussion of the fundamentals of guest accessibility and eligibility, addressing accessibility issues from a safety perspective. The seminar will include discussion of key concepts, eligibility criteria, and best practices to ensure comfort and an optimal experience without compromising operational safety.

Practical Exercise 2: Risk Identification
Interactive session combining group work and general discussion, where participants will identify risks related to an assigned product. Each group will then analyze a specific area or attraction in a park to develop a Risk Matrix from the visitor/user perspective.

The IAAPA Safety Bootcamp is an intensive two-day in-person workshop that combines theoretical sessions, group dynamics, practical cases, and a technical tour in a theme park.
Day 2 – Observation, Technical Analysis and Contextual Application
9 – 10:30 a.m.
Session 3 – Accident Investigation with a Focus on Human Factors and Safety
A technical discussion with a preventive focus, in which the speaker will share real-life events—from minor injuries to fatal accidents—from her perspective as an expert and specialist in human factors science.
10:30 – 11 a.m.

11 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Session 4 – Emerging Technologies: Efficient Inspections and Documentation
Discussion of the processes, methodologies, tools, and equipment available for proper evidence preservation and forensic analysis.
12 – 1:30 p.m.
Guided Tour of Mundo Petapa Park (Field Observations)
Tour focusing on guests flow, accessibility, and operational risks, with the use of observation sheets by teams for field analysis.
1:30 – 2:30 p.m.

2:30 – 4:30 p.m.
Team Activity: Improvement Proposal Based on Observation
Group work will analyze the findings from the park tour, develop proposals or micro-action plans, and each team will have the opportunity to briefly present their conclusions.

Contextualization Panel with Local Representatives (Guatemala)
Moderated panel session focused on a dialogue about the general reality of the region in different industry contexts, connecting what was learned during the Bootcamp and offering a group space for questions, discussion, and reflection.
