MJ Brewer

MJ Brewer is a seasoned safety professional with over 30 years of expertise in waterpark and theme park operations, safety, and risk management. The first two decades of her career were dedicated to managing the safe operations of multiple large waterpark properties, followed by senior leadership roles in safety and risk management for three different multi-unit amusement facility owner/operators.  She also served as a Safety Specialist at Recreation Engineering Inc., where she performed third-party safety inspections and operational audits at nationally recognized amusement parks and resorts.

Currently serving as Vice President of Risk Services at American Specialty Insurance, MJ leads initiatives to enhance safety programs, conduct risk assessments, and support clients in mitigating operational hazards. Prior to this role, she spent four years as Executive Director for AIMS International, a non-profit trade association focused on advancing amusement industry safety through education and leadership.

MJ actively contributes to the amusement and attractions industry through leadership, training, and committee work. She is a member of NAARSO and AIMS International, holding multiple professional certifications from both organizations.

She is the current Chairperson and Co-Founder of the Academy of Amusement Safety, Security and Risk Management and serves on the AIMS International Adventure Attractions Committee and Certification Committee.

As a member of the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA), she sits on the North American Advisory Board and chairs the Nature and Adventure Park Task Force. She has also served on IAAPA’s Facility Operations Committee and Waterpark Committee.

MJ is an active participant in the ASTM F24 Committee for Amusement Rides and Devices.

She earned her Bachelor of Science in Recreation Management and Master of Science in Community Health and Exercise Science from the University of Kansas, where she competed as a member of the women’s varsity swim team.
