Joe Relich is Sr. Vice President of Technical Services, Universal Studios Japan. He is responsible for supporting the Resort Operation by providing professional services for maintenance and servicing of the Theme Park, Parking, and Resort Common Area, including Infrastructure, Utilities, Area Development, Facilities, and Ride/Show Systems.
Joe has over 35 years of amusement park experience leading projects and organizations for both Universal Studios and Disney. His Engineering career started at Disneyland providing engineering support to attractions maintenance and operations teams. He was provided an opportunity to work with Walt Disney Imagineering on the development of Disney’s California Adventure, providing design input for the maintenance and sustainability of the developing attractions. He was then promoted to lead the Sustaining Engineering Team for the Disneyland Resort. Looking to expand his knowledge and experience, he joined Walt Disney World Resort leading the Quality Engineering team then later assuming the management of Worldwide Attraction Safety over multiple global projects. Joe joined Universal Studios Hollywood in 2016 as Vice President of Engineering and Quality Assurance where he oversaw Attraction and Show Program Asset Sustainment, Attraction/Facility Engineering, Quality Engineering and Quality Control. His role includes leading the strategy to enhance safety, reliability, experience and drive lower cost of ownership through innovative predictive maintenance technologies. In 2018 Joe was asked to lead the Technical Services division for the Universal Beijing Resort. After building a strong technical team and successfully leading the turnover and acceptance of all facilities and attractions from UPR and JV partners, Joe was promoted to SVP, Operations and Technical Services prior to the grand opening of UBR where he lead a team of nearly 5000 Team Members to support the operation, maintenance and sustainment of the 4 square kilometer resort.
Joe graduated from California State Long Beach with a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering. He holds a Professional Engineering license in California and Florida. He resides in Kobe with his wife while his two adult children live and work in Orlando, Florida.
