Description

States across the country have passed various laws to legalize or decriminalize the medical or recreational use of cannabis.

This, in turn, impacts the requirements and obligations that companies have with respect to the hiring and discipline of employees, as well as safety standards and protections of patrons.

This session will discuss various laws across the country and how they have impacted hiring and employee relations as it relates to cannabis use and possession, including potential revisions to workplace policies, changes to pre-employment, post-incident, and random drug testing, and accommodations of medical marijuana and cannabis use.

We will also provide practical “best practices” for handling a variety of workplace situations involving cannabis in various jurisdictions and legal systems.

Learning Objectives
-Explore and analyze the patchwork of state laws that legalize or decriminalize the medical or recreational use of cannabis

-Discuss how these legal requirements might impact revisions to workplace policies

-Examine various “best practices” for addressing and handling situations involving employee use and possession of cannabis, as well as revisions to drug testing policies
