What’s New: Anti-Pathogenic Food Packaging, PPE Shield, Touch Surface Microbial Guard
Anti-Pathogenic Food Packaging
Aptar Food + Beverage, which produces a range of food packaging systems and processing equipment, recently launched its InvisiShield platform technology. The company calls the product a “first of its kind anti-pathogenic packaging solution,” where InvisiShield integrates into sealed packages to protect pre-sliced produce from bacteria, fungi, and viruses. Once embedded within sealed packages, InvisiShield will release a specially formulated amount of an anti-pathogenic agent into the fresh-cut produce packaging that’s undetectable by the consumer and dissipates within 24 to 48 hours of activation. It’s designed to reduce pathogens that may have been introduced in the supply chain without coming into contact with the product itself. Aptar Food + Beverage says InvisiShield can also reduce cross-contamination within the sealed package.
Personal Protective Face Shield
Extreme Engineering collaborated with one of its strategic partners to manufacture protective face shields in support of providing the medical community with personal protective equipment (PPE). This protective shield, called Extreme PPE Shield, includes an adjustable headband with a fabric fastener attachment to make it fully adjustable. Understanding the urgency of having PPE gear on hand, Extreme Engineering took steps to ensure the face shield is available quickly, even on large-volume orders. Extreme Engineering said donation orders will include free standard ground shipping in the United States, and a portion of the proceeds will be sent to UNICEF to help fight COVID-19.
Touch Surface Microbial Guard
Silver Defender, a firm that began with the idea of protecting one common touch point in a corporate office, is now on a mission to
protect every shared surface. The company’s products carry the same name, Silver Defender, and include molded coverings for door handles, knobs, keypads, and amusement ride lap bars, and coverings can be customized for almost any surface. Plus, Silver Defender offers rolls of Rapid Response Tape that carry the same antimicrobial protection. Like the molded coverings, the tape is designed to kill 99% of microbes and is effective for at least 90 days. The waterproof plastic coverings are embedded with silver that is activated by heat, light, pressure, and salt from fingerprints. The silver releases ions that shoot out and strike and puncture microbes.
