Learning to be a leader is a lifelong process.
Every day is a new day and I’m always learning different things. This year, it’s more evident that what we think of as “normal” won’t work; but that’s ok.
I’ve always thought I have had bad luck – I haven’t had the same lifelong friend, or lived in the same house for over 30 years. Growing up, my family moved every couple of years, which meant changing school, friends, and environment was normal for me. Little did I know it was a luxury to be exposed to so many different cultures and changes.
In fact, it turns out that my seemingly “bad luck” is the luckiest thing for me to lean on during turbulent times. It became second nature for me to pivot, to change, to move ahead. And although I’m still trying to learn how to improve my skill set, I feel blessed to be powered by these learnings. Disruption gives me energy and promise of a better tomorrow.
I have learned in times of distress and turbulence, you need to focus on yourself. You need to learn, connect, and make the most of today. Now more than ever, it is time to focus on personal learning to help prepare for the future. In our busy lives, we often work hard to meet deadlines, and forget about focusing on our own learning and taking time to look inside ourselves.
