It's no secret, even to nonmotorsport enthusiasts, that Ferrari has a glorious history in automobile racing. Now, Ferrari World Abu Dhabi is spotlighting the contributions of women to Ferrari racing.
“Il Rosso and Il Rosa Women and Ferraris—the untold story” is a new exhibition at Ferrari World that takes guests on a journey through time and spotlights not only the female owners and drivers of Ferrari racecars, but also showcases the spectacular machines.
“The exhibition highlights and empowers leading women who, over the years, carved out a growing role in the car industry,” says Deana Taylor, deputy general manager of Ferrari World Abu Dhabi. “The exhibition also showcases Ferrari’s legacy with the display of exotic cars from the heart of Ferrari World Abu Dhabi.”
Some of the magnificent cars on display include the 458 Challenge, LaFerrari, the FF, and the 166 Berlinetta, all of which were owned by women. This includes Maya Weug, the first female member of the Ferrari Driver Academy, Saudi racing driver Aseel Al-Hamad, French racing driver Yvonne Simon, and world-renowned entertainer Beyoncé.
Weug actually visited the exhibition in December 2021, where her very own Ferrari 166 Berlinetta F4 is on display. While at Ferrari World, she also experienced “Formula Rossa,” the theme park’s roller coaster that reaches a speed of 240 kph, making it one of the fastest coasters on Earth, and the perfect experience for a Ferrari race driver.
According to Ferrari World, Weug isn’t the only influential woman of automobile racing to visit the exhibit.
“The exhibition was also visited by Aseel Al-Hamad,” Taylor says, “who is a motorsport enthusiast, became the first female board member of the Saudi Arabian Motor Federation in 2017, and is a member of the International Automobile Federation.”
“Il Rosso and Il Rosa Women and Ferraris—the untold story,” presented in collaboration with the Ferrari Museum in Maranello, Italy, is on display until September 2022 and is included in the general admission to Ferrari World Abu Dhabi.
