Plopsa Station Antwerp Opens and Doctor Who Museum Exhibit Debuts
Plopsa’s New Indoor Park Arrives at Antwerp Station
Plopsa Group officially opened Plopsa Station Antwerp after investing 6 million euros into the indoor park. Plopsa Group acquired the Belgian park, formerly known as Comics Station Antwerp, in December 2019. It is Plopsa’s ninth park.
Plopsa Group revamped and rebranded the attraction, which occupies a unique location in Antwerpen-Centraal, Antwerp’s main train station.
The park has 15 attractions, including new ones based on Studio 100 children’s content, such as “Wickie’s Valtoren,” Mega Mindy’s “De Vliegende Fietsen,” “Maya’s Speeltuin,” and “De Bumbamolen.” It has also kept familiar comic characters: Spike and Suzy, Jommeke, The Kiekeboes, The Smurfs, Lucky Luke, and Urbanus. Plopsa Station Antwerp’s attractions, spread over four floors, are mainly aimed at children aged between 2 and 10 years old.
“We expect 200,000 to 250,000 visitors on an annual basis,” says Plopsa CEO Steve Van den Kerkhof. “Moreover, we are already noticing that there are many requests from companies for family and customer events.”
Antwerp’s mayor, Bart De Wever, welcomed the park’s relaunch, noting the high demand for children’s indoor activities in the city.
A Brand-New Debut for ‘Doctor Who’
National Museums Liverpool in the United Kingdom will launch the world premiere of “Doctor Who Worlds of Wonder” at the World Museum, starting in May 2022. The new exhibition is inspired by the hit BBC TV show “Doctor Who” and the adventures of the famous Time Lord.
Visitors will be able to discover how science has influenced the world’s longest-running sci-fi series. In the TARDIS Tech room, guests can learn about the tantalizing possibilities of time travel and the Doctor’s TARDIS, a time machine shaped like an old-fashioned police box. Visitors can journey through Cosmic Curiosities and brave the Monster Vault, filled with weird and wonderful characters from the globally popular show. The touring exhibit features eight zones with artifacts from BBC archives. The experience will last around 90 minutes.
“We’re so lucky to be the first museum in the world to host this must-see experience, which offers exclusive insight for ‘Doctor Who’ buffs, science fiction fans, and anybody else with a curious mind,” says Fiona Philpott, director of exhibitions at National Museums Liverpool.
Design and production company Sarner International is producing the experience under license from BBC Studios, and Sanders Exhibition Services (SES) will manage tour bookings.
“The television series’ iconic characters, monsters, stories, and settings provide a perfect guide through the wondrous worlds of space, time, and life sciences,” says Ed Cookson, director at Sarner International.
