Learning with the Stars in Puerto Rico
Located on the island of Puerto Rico, the National Astronomy and Ionosphere Center has played a pivotal role in astronomical studies both in the United States and internationally. Inaugurated in 1963, the telescope facility—better known as the Arecibo Observatory—became an attraction rooted in science that opened its doors to visitors.
Featured in movies such as “GoldenEye” and “Contact,” the Arecibo Observatory was damaged between 2017 and 2020 following hurricane activity. Faults in the main and auxiliary
cables of the 305-meter telescope led to a structural collapse in December 2020.
Deemed irreparable, the U.S. National Science Foundation announced it would not repair nor replace the telescope. Instead, the agency issued a solicitation for an operator to create a new multidisciplinary science center that aims to serve as a hub for STEM education and outreach.
Expected to open in 2023, the new attraction will include the Ángel Ramos Foundation Science and Visitor Center, exhibition space, laboratory space, auditorium, and cafeteria.
Punta Cana to Host World-Class Theme Park
One of the most visited destinations in the Dominican Republic will soon tempt its guests with cutting-edge rides and interactive attractions. Famous for its white sand beaches and all-inclusive resorts, Punta Cana will soon become the first city in the Americas to host a Katmandu Park.
Following the success of Katmandu Park in Mallorca, Spain, Falcon’s Beyond announced the opening of a second theme park in the Caribbean. Combining entertainment, attractions, dining and shopping, Katmandu Park Punta Cana will immerse guests in the company’s original franchise: The Hidden Realms of Katmandu.
The new theme park will open its doors with four major rides: a suspended theater, a 4D dark ride, an interactive walk-through, and a 4D theater. Other attractions include a 36-hole mini-golf course, a Katmandu-themed carousel, an outdoor ropes course, four indoor climbing courses, and midway-style games.
Katmandu Park Punta Cana will provide guests with smart wristbands that carriy their attraction passes and enables cashless payments. Falcon’s Beyond also announced plans to open three additional Katmandu Parks within the next few years. Locations could include popular vacation destinations in Spain and Mexico.
