Exposing high-tech attractions—which often involve electronic components—to water raises the question of what kinds of warranties operators should ask for.
“Product pieces like electric parts, light effects, and such may need repair or replacement sometime during the slide’s lifetime, but these are usually easy to replace,” says Dr. Stephan Spiller, head of branch office—water rides for wiegand.waterrides. Spiller says owners and operators should use quality brand name spare parts and ask how long parts will be available in the future.
He says the soft silicone joints of standard fiberglass slides need regular maintenance and are often not part of any warranty.
Spiller says wiegand.waterrides offers a five-year warranty on its slides made from stainless steel and a warranty of two to five years on steel structures, dependent on the quality of paint applied to the structure. Fiberglass material without joints from the company receive a warranty for up to five years when bundled with a service contract.
