New Member Spotlight: Immersive Tech
For more than four years, Immersive Tech has been creating and delivering experiential and escape room experiences for family entertainment centers (FECs), resorts, and a variety of corporate, pop-up, festival, and mobile events. The team behind the Vancouver-based company works to blend amusement park engineering and interactive video game design to develop themed escape experiences. Immersive Tech collaborates with its clients to craft escape rooms, starting with the design of layouts, puzzles, and environments and then moving through fabrication, narrative and content creation, installation, and operations training to bring attractions to life.
“We believe everyone deserves mind-blowing, magical experiences, and these experiences should be more accessible to people without having to travel across the country,” says Tim Bieber, CEO of Immersive Tech. “As more of our FEC clients asked us about escape virtual reality (VR) experiences, we went to work on a solution and landed on an attraction product to serve the demand for location-based multiplayer VR, but with a twist.”
Using the FECs’ feedback, Immersive Tech produced a new product housed inside a 40-foot shipping container, which Bieber says proved to be the perfect platform. The company had previously created an escape room experience inside a shipping container themed to engage with future scientists for Leaps by Bayer at HubWeek 2019, a festival celebrating technology, business, science, and the arts in Boston. Immersive Tech found that the shipping container—divided into three unique escape rooms for gameplay—made shipping and setup easy for the team.
Requiring the space of about five parking spots, Uncontained is a six-player free-roam VR attraction that features 5D environmental elements, including motion floor, pneumatic air blasts, heating and cooling effects, scents, and physical object interactions that are mapped to the experience’s virtual world.
“When guests step into our Uncontained container, they will immediately be transported to an entirely new and magical world,” Bieber says. “Players experience their physical environment mapped to the game visuals with body and hand tracking coupled with backpack-free exploration.”
While Uncontained is Immersive Tech’s latest innovation, the company is looking forward to building off the platform and expanding its network of VR arenas around the world.
“There’s no better organization to help support our mission of growth within the attractions industry worldwide,” Bieber says of Immersive Tech’s decision to join IAAPA.
