Upon opening its third water coaster in 2020—the twin-track, ProSlide RocketBlast “Cheetah Chase”—Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari declared itself the Water Coaster Capital of the World. Now, the park plans to capitalize on its notoriety by establishing National Water Coaster Day.
“It was a harebrained scheme that came to me one day,” says Leah Koch, one of the park’s principals. At press time, details were still coming together for the 2021 event, yet if pandemic conditions allow, the park is hoping to conduct a water coaster-thon, among other ways, to mark the day.
In addition to “Cheetah Chase,” the park also features “Mammoth” and “Wildebeest,” two of the longest water coasters in the world.
“Water coasters are the biggest crowd pleasers we’ve ever built,” Koch says. “They’re more accessible for younger kids than roller coasters. We’ve built a brand for them.”
