New Thrills at Vietnam’s Sun World Hon Thom Nature Park
Sun World Group is launching Vietnam’s first wooden roller coaster, amid the tropical hillsides of Sun World Hon Thom Nature Park on Phú Quốc island, off the coast of Cambodia in the Gulf of Thailand.
“Roaring Timbers” (“Mộc Xà Thịnh Nộ”) climbs more than 100 feet before reaching speeds of nearly 50 miles per hour. Manufactured by Great Coasters International, the roller coaster extends for more than half a mile.
“This is one of the most twisted wooden pieces of art in the world,” says Brad Loxley, Sun World Group’s chief operating officer, who notes that the new coaster has 14 hills and just as many crossovers that pass over or under another section of the track.
“Roaring Timbers” is the first ride to open in Sun World Hon Thom Nature Park’s Exotica expansion. Two more attractions are expected to launch this year.
Singapore’s Mount Faber Leisure Group has launched the country’s highest open-air panoramic ride, “SkyHelix Sentosa,” a gondola that ascends 35 meters above the ground to a height of nearly 80 meters above sea level. The 12-minute ride—one minute up, one minute down, and 10 minutes rotating slowly at the peak—offers beautiful 360-degree views of Sentosa Island and Singapore’s Greater Southern Waterfront.
“As Singapore eyes a long-term goal of recovery of its tourism sector, the opening of ‘SkyHelix Sentosa’ signals a strong message of hope and optimism for the industry and the country,” says Mount Faber Leisure Group Managing Director Buhdy Bok.
Designed and constructed by France’s Aerophile, the electric gondola is also Sentosa’s first carbon-neutral attraction. Tickets, which cost SG$18 for adults and SG$12 for children, are bundled with a nonalcoholic drink or souvenir. Snacks and alcoholic drinks are also sold at the base of the attraction, which is located a short walk from the Singapore Cable Car’s Sentosa station.
