What’s in a handbook? Charles Krugel, an attorney who specializes in labor and employment law, suggests including the following in an employee manual:
- A disclaimer stating the document is not a contract with employees
- Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policy and procedures (for the United States)
- Immigration policies and required documents
- Definition of full-time and part-time employees
- Overtime issues
- Workers’ compensation information
- Alcohol and drug policies
- Attendance policy
- Code of conduct
- Procedures for performance reviews
Krugel also suggests having the manual examined by legal counsel on completion.
