Ferrari World Abu Dhabi Tantalizes Students with New ‘Coaster Lab’
As part of its 10th anniversary celebration, Ferrari World Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates began captivating schoolchildren with a new hands-on learning attraction. The park launched an education initiative called “Coaster Lab.” The new exhibit affords students the opportunity to participate in an activity-filled day to stoke their love of science, physics, and the engineering behind roller coasters. Like the traditional high school “Physics Day” events offered at many seasonal parks, “Coaster Lab” will be offered year-round, targeting both primary and middle school students. The goal is to ignite an interest in STEM-based education early in life.
“Experts will walk students through interactive segments demonstrating three core laws of motion and gravity: Newton’s first law, potential and kinetic energy, and G-force,” says Bianca Sammut, general manager of Ferrari World Abu Dhabi. “These demonstrations help shed light on the science behind roller coasters in a dynamic manner that is sure to keep students interested and engaged.”
The hands-on program will be conducted by Ferrari World’s own engineers, who will not only teach students about the intriguing mechanisms behind the rides, but will help students build their own model roller coasters.
“Students will learn about the preliminary phases of how a roller coaster is built—from the first steps of determining the shape, size, and measurements, to putting all of the parts together of the final creation,” reveals Sammut. “Tailored to students from different grade levels, experts will give them a closer look into the elements crucial to roller coaster design, such as energy conversion, hydraulic launch systems, aerodynamics, and gravitational force.”
“Coaster Lab” isn’t limited to just workshop sessions; students are also given the opportunity to experience the theme park’s rides and attractions, including one of the world’s fastest roller coasters, “Formula Rossa.”
They’ll also enjoy access to the park’s new Family Zone, which recently opened as part of the park’s 10th anniversary celebration. The new area includes miniature versions of four adult rides at the park, including the “Formula Rossa Junior” coaster for families, aerial adventures aboard “Turbo Tower” and “Flying Wings,” and behind-the-wheel adventures at “Speedway Race.”
The “Coaster Lab” program must be booked in advance and can be purchased as an add-on to Ferrari World’s existing school packages.
