IAAPA Committee Spotlight
IAAPA Committees represent the association’s membership and support its mission, vision, and strategic plan. Myriad attractions industry professionals around the world dedicate their time and talents serving on committees to make IAAPA a progressive, proactive, and strong organization.
This year, the IAAPA Latin America, Caribbean Safety Subcommittee has been working on several projects to benefit IAAPA members. The subcommittee of seven members is finalizing a safety manual for water parks to be released in the coming months that will provide best practices for facilities of all sizes. In 2017, the subcommittee put together the IAAPA Operational Best Practices Handbook, which is available online through the IAAPA Bookstore in English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Chinese. The subcommittee is also working on an inventory of rides and attractions that is entering its final testing phases.
“It is a database that will allow you to contact members anywhere in the world that have the same attraction to freely share best practices, operations discoveries, maintenance inspections, and more,” says Andrés Vanegas Ruiz, ICAE, director of operations at Carruseles S.A. in Colombia and chair of the IAAPA Latin America, Caribbean Safety Subcommittee. “It will have a positive impact on safety and take global collaboration to another level.”
Additionally, the subcommittee presents safety-related articles and tips to members through the monthly IAAPA Latin America, Caribbean newsletter.
“IAAPA is an immense source of support and knowledge for its members and the industry,” says Vanegas Ruiz, who previously served on the IAAPA Facility Operations Committee. “Without a doubt, what you learn and share is so invaluable that I invite all members to support our volunteer work by taking part in IAAPA Committees, Subcommittees, and Task Forces.”
The IAAPA Latin America, Caribbean Safety Subcommittee is just one of more than 50 IAAPA Committees shaping the future of the association and the industry. IAAPA has five types of committees: board, strategic, regional advisory, constituency, and awards, as well as a series of subcommittees, which have openings in 2020.
