Rocky Mountain Construction (RMC, Booth #4006) unveiled the ride vehicle for its record-breaking “Iron Gwazi” roller coaster, with a scheduled opening in spring 2020 at Busch Gardens Tampa. The coaster train will sport light and dark green colors, taking its theming from crocodiles. The six-car train will seat 24 passengers, and though the coaster is packed with high thrills, guests as short as 48 inches tall will be allowed to ride, making it accessible to many kids.
“Iron Gwazi” will be a be wood hybrid coaster, featuring 4,075 feet of RMC’s proprietary IBox steel track. Speeding to 76 mph and sporting a drop of 91 degrees, the ride will be the fastest and steepest hybrid coaster on Earth. It will feature three inversions, and its 206-foot drop will make it the tallest hybrid coaster in North America. “‘Iron Gwazi’ will be one of the very best rides out there,” said Fred Grubb, president of RMC.
The ride replaces a twin wood coaster called “Gwazi” that closed in the park in 2015. RMC used some of the footings from the old coaster and as much of the wood as possible in building “Iron Gwazi’s” structure.
